ANTIQUES AT ASIAN VILLAGE
Over one hundred years old, each of our pieces comes with a Certificate of Antiquity giving its provenance and signed with the chop of our highly respected collector in China, quoted as an expert in ART & ANTIQUES magazine.
As each antique is one-of-a-kind, the Asian Village Collection is constantly changing. We have iconic pieces such as Barber Stools, classic chairs, altar tables and a variety of chests, benches, stools and side tables from the Chinese provinces of Suzhou, Shanxi, Zhejiang, Anhui and Ningbo, among others. The beautifully patina’d woods include Southern Elm (Jumu), Blackwood (Hongmu), Walnut (Nanmu), Pearwood (Taomu), Bamboo and occasionally the rare Huanghuali so prized in ancient China.
The pieces share classic mortise-and-tenon construction and all have their original hardware, a rare find. The color is always original to the piece, enhanced in China by a museum-trained staff using thin layers of natural Chinese lacquer and hand-rubbing to return each piece to the dignity of its heritage. The resulting patina is spectacular.
Homeowners from the world over have discovered at Asian Village “furniture…that transcends the bounds of time and space, fulfilling the basic needs of supporting and containing…[with] magnificent plainness” for their homes in the mountains and beyond. Asian Village has shipped furniture to Bermuda, Hawaii and everywhere in between.
